She has developed solutions in different domains like Insurance, Banking, Telecom etc. In her role as a Developer Advocate she is dedicated to help developers get comfortable with the Watson APIs. Her strong background as a web developer helps her jump around the technologies that need to be woven in for different solutions.

Riya Mary Roy, is a Developer Advocate with focus on IBM Cognitive and Cloud technology platforms and is a strong evangelist of the technology in multiple forums. She is an active technical blogger and has created multiple assets that has helped to create quick adoption among developer community.

He is a part of Digital Business Group: determined to smoothen the journey for Developers and their startups with IBM’s visionary tech. In the past, he worked mainly with the start-up community. He undertook the roles of an IOT consultant, Computer Vision expert, Cloud Advocate, IOT trainer, Design Automation rookie and quite a few freelance consultancy roles as well, developing a good amount of street cred while doing so. Currently he’s working on creating novel PoCs demonstrating the cognitive capabilities of IBM Watson and its ability to transform the way businesses operate forever.

Technology for Mental Wellbeing

Depression and other common mental disorder cases are fast increasing in India with over 5 crore people suffering from the disorder, the highest in Southeast Asia and Western Pacific region, which includes China, according to WHO. The latest assessment by the UN agency shows that China and India are by far the worst affected countries, accounting for nearly 50% of the total 322 million people living with depression across the world.

The Moonshot Project aims to change this for the better. Using Artificial Intelligence, together, we will build a technology that opens new frontiers in understanding mental health diseases. We are building a cognitive system to fight depression and increase mental wellbeing. Join us.

Build an AI Mobile App

What do I build

Build a Healthcare application designed to fight depression and enhance overall mental wellbeing. The application interfaces could reside on a smartphone, a smartwatch, or both. If you find the viewport restricting to showcase a particular functionality of your application, you may build a browser interface for that functionality or feature set, in addition to the mobile app.

You can register your idea now, but you will need to submit a short video demonstration of your application latest by 23:59 IST on Thursday, August 31st, 2017. The video clip must showcase a working prototype of your app. Presentation decks will not fetch you brownie points.

  • The length of the video should not exceed 7 minutes. The video must be in MP4, WebM, Ogg, AVI, or WMV format only.
  • You are not required to share the source code of your application, but your app may go through a code review at some point in the hackathon if required.
  • There is no restriction on the number of members you can recruit in your team.

Some pointers to get you started.

Think big, Start small

Make sure it’s something you can build during the course of the hackathon. What is the simplest thing you can build that provides value? Err on the side of subtracting functionality rather than adding functionality. In lean startup terminology, this is called a minimum viable product (MVP).

Unleash your Creativity

To ignite your imagination, few wireframes of example use-cases are illustrated below. You may take inspiration from these mockups and build the same functionality, or use it partially, or completely disregard them and build a prototype that’s unique to your solution.

Don’t forget the Video

Your submission must include a short video that clearly demonstrate the workings of your application. This video must not exceed 7 minutes in length and must be in MP4, WebM, Ogg, AVI, or WMV format only. Any submission without the video will be disqualified from the competition.

Stick to the Deadline

Phase I: Compete is open from today - August 31, 2017. This phase is currently active. Rationalization is procrastination’s spin doctor. A good time to start building your prototype is NOW.

The Real Thing

Presentation decks will NOT fetch you brownie point. The video must demonstrate a working prototype. You are not required to share the source code of your application, but your app may go through a code review at some point in the hackathon if required.

If the settings allow, the app connects the patient with the person s/he is most comfortable taking to, either via chat or call. This person could be the patient’s Conselor, doctor, family member, or a friend. If this person is not available to take the call, the app may initiate an AI Conversational Agent to engage the patient with a view to provide some level of comfort.

Doc View

The Doctor can monitor the patient’s vital signs while s/he is on a call with him/her. S/he can assess if the conversation is leading to a favorable outcome or not (in this hypothecal scenario, calming the patient down) and take corrective actions if need be. She can drill-down on details by tapping on a particular parameter.She could conference other people on the call if required.

One View

The App enables authorised Healthcare professionals to monitor health condition of all their patients in a particular area under one view. In an emergency, based on patient’s location, a Doctor may assign a medical resource nearest to the patient and minimize wait time. For example, on seeing a patient’s condition detiorate, a Doctor may apprise a Counselor nearest to a patient to intervene.
After enough training, the AI in the app could carry out such tasks without human intervention.

Scorecard

Build a module to analyze a Counselor’s performance based on criteria such as number of patients s/he counseled within a certain date range; the average time s/he takes to calm down a distressed patient (the Doc View feature shown previously provides data about heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and more to ascertain physical signs of an anxiety attack); gender s/he is most effective with; age group s/he is most effective with; and much more.
Analyze large amounts of data from different perspectives, identify patterns, and establish relationships among them and summarize it into useful information.

Medication

A feature that improves patient medication adherence by managing medicine dosage information and schedules. It intimates the patient via push notification, text message, or an automated phone call (depends upon Settings) when it’s time to take the medicines, and notifies the caretaker if the patient forgets. At each dosage the patient can note whether s/he felt better, worse, or the same and add a text or voice memo.

What about Prizes?
The Moonshot Project is an initiative to identify brilliant minds who are passionate about making the world a better place by eliminating stress, anxiety, & depression and increasing overall mental wellbeing by using technology. We wish to forge long-term working relationships. Join the movement if you share this passion.
Will my participation be publicly showcased?
Yes, you may be photographed, video graphed or interviewed during the various phases of the project.
I do not have a team. Can I participate?
We do not undermine what you are capable of doing alone. Shoot ahead lone ranger.
Can I still participate if I am not an Indian resident?
Code knows no boundaries. If short-listed to the final round, you may demo the product over a video call. We look forward to your ideas.
How many team members are permitted in a team?
Minimum 1. There is no cap on the number of people you may recruit for your team.
What is the best programming language for AI?
The one you are most proficient in.
Which Mobile OS should I develop my prototype on?
You may choose a mobile OS of your preference in Phase 1: Compete. You may choose between iOS, Android, Ubuntu Touch, Firefox OS, Windows, or any other mobile OS you are most comfortable with. You may even choose to build an HTLM5 app. We will zero-in on the mobile OS of choice for production during Phase 2: Collaborate.
